A breast lift is a procedure that aims to make the breasts look younger by lifting them back up and making them perkier. RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Center offers breast lifts and other cosmetic surgeries to patients living throughout San Antonio, Texas, Concan, Fredericksburg, Port Aransas, Boerne, New Braunfels, and all of South Texas.
What Is A Breast Lift?
A breast lift or mastopexy is a cosmetic procedure that can restore the symmetry and firmness of breasts. They often lose these qualities due to pregnancy, nursing, or natural aging.
Breast sag and shape loss can lead to ‘deflated’ breasts – especially in the upper breast. A breast lift restores a youthful appearance, as well as perkiness, to the chest area. This can also help reduce areola size.
A breast lift can be combined with breast implants to replace volume.
Am I A Good Candidate For A Breast Lift?
After any of the events listed above, some women may lose their breasts’ shape and fullness. If you are considering this surgery, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift.
If you are interested in increasing your breast volume, you may want to consider a breast enlargement procedure like a breast augmentation or implants.
How Is A Breast Lift Performed?
Our breast lifts are done in a certified outpatient surgery center or hospital under general anesthesia, combined with local anesthesia and tumescent. This allows for your absolute safety and comfort.
A breast lift is performed by removing the skin below your breasts. It takes around 2-5 hours, depending on how much skin you need to remove.
We offer a wide range of breast lift techniques to help patients achieve the best results possible. Some of these techniques include:
- Circumferential periareolar (or “donut”) mastopexy –This technique removes a small circle of skin from around the areola of the nipple. It is best suited for patients who need a conservative lift and want to avoid going under the muscle. The donut technique results in perkier breasts with limited stretching of the breast tissue.
- Crescent lift – This may not count as a breast lift, but it does have the potential to increase symmetry by repositioning the nipples. A small circle-shaped section of areola is removed, and that can then set the nipple in place, correcting any asymmetry and leaving scars that aren’t too noticeable.
- Vertical LeJour (or “lollipop”) mastopexy – For patients with significantly sagging or drooping breasts, we use the lollipop technique. This technique gets its name from the incision that encircles the areola and descends downwards to the bottom of the breasts.
- Extended LeJour mastopexy – The extended LeJour mastopexy uses the lollipop technique and a curved incision on the underside of the breast. This allows for even more skin to be removed, primarily lifting skin around your chest area. This technique, in addition to other benefits of breast lifts, can have significant body side effects.
This is best suited for patients with severe sagging who are looking for a lift that cannot be achieved with other techniques.
In a breast lift, several layers of hidden stitches are used, and the final incisions are covered by surgical tape, which protects these incisions for the first two weeks.
We rarely use suction drains for breast lifts, but they may be necessary for more complex upper body lifts. You’ll usually have to wait 2-5 days after your surgery before removing them.
