SPIDER VEIN TREATMENTS
Poor circulation in the legs, also called venous insufficiency, can lead to spider veins and other unwanted symptoms. To eliminate the appearance of spider veins, RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Center offers spider vein treatments to patients living in McAllen, the Rio Grande Valley, Brownsville, and all of South Texas.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are damaged, enlarged, or weakened veins that are visible on the skin. These can develop due to injury and sun exposure, but most often occur due to aging. Although mostly a cosmetic condition, spider veins can cause uncomfortable feelings in the legs. If you are experiencing any discomfort as a result of spider veins or would like to diminish their appearance, you may be a good candidate for spider vein treatment. Spider veins can be treated using a number of different techniques, all of which are offered at RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Center.

Sclerotherapy For Spider Veins
Sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice to eliminate spider veins. This method, which has been used since the 1930s, remains the preferred treatment for spider veins and continues to offer better results than superficial laser treatments. Sclerotherapy is a procedure that treats spider veins by injecting a solution into the veins, which causes them to gradually disappear. At RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Center, we use Asclera® to ensure the best results. Asclera® is an FDA-approved agent for spider veins, and is a safe and effective injectable irritant that has a low risk of complications and side effects.
Laser And Pulsed Light Treatments For Spider Veins
For spider veins on the face, we may recommend either the 1064nm Nd:YAG topical laser or an intense pulsed light treatment, or IPL. These techniques heat the veins using laser energy, causing them to slowly fade and disappear. These topical laser treatments are best suited for smaller spider veins.
Patients with true venous insufficiency of the saphenous veins in the legs (diagnosed via ultrasound) require endovenous laser vein therapy(EVLT). This treatment is performed in the office under IV sedation and local anesthesia using ultrasound to guide placement of a thin laser fiber inside the larger veins to be ablated and deliver the laser energy from inside the vein, effectively sealing it shut and eliminating the symptoms and improving the appearance of the surface spider veins and varicose veins. If a patient with spider veins and varicose veins has underlying venous insufficiency that isn’t treated, then superficial treatments with either sclerotherapy or skin lasers won’t be effective. This is why it is important to have your leg veins formally evaluated by a leg vein expert before beginning spider vein treatments.
What Can I Expect From Spider Vein Treatments?
Your treatment experience will depend on the severity of your spider veins and the method of treatment used. Typically, patients will need multiple treatments to fully eliminate the appearance of spider veins and achieve the results they desire. At RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Center, our decades of experience and expertise in vein treatments enables us to provide comfortable and effective spider vein solutions. During your consultation with our physicians and advanced nurse practitioner, we will review your treatment options and help determine the method of treatment that is best for you. During this time, we will also discuss what you can expect regarding treatment, results and recovery.
How Much Does Spider Vein Treatment Cost?
To determine the cost of your spider vein treatment, we invite you to schedule a private consultation at our practice. During your consultation, we will assess your cosmetic concerns and ensure that there are no underlying varicose vein problems in order to pursue a treatment plan that matches your unique needs. Then, we will be able to provide you with a clear breakdown of the costs associated with your spider vein treatments. At RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Center, we accept a number of payment and financing options, including cash, checks, money orders, major credit cards, and CareCredit® financing. We also offer simple and secure online payment options for the convenience of our patients. Although spider vein treatments are considered cosmetic, any underlying venous insufficiency (i.e. saphenous vein reflux) and larger, painful varicose veins are considered medical and may be covered by insurance.
