What Is TUBA?
TUBA is an advanced surgical approach for breast augmentation that avoids any scars on or around the breasts. The breast implants are inserted through a very small incision concealed inside the navel. Although formally called Transumbilical Breast Augmentation, most of our patients prefer to call this technique the “Belly Button Boob Job™”. This procedure takes less than two hours, offers a very quick recovery, minimal bleeding, less breast trauma than with traditional approaches, a lower risk of breast infection and leaves NO breast scars!

Is TUBA Right For Me?
During your consultation with us, you will have an opportunity to discuss your goals and expectations. We will assess your breasts to ensure that you are a proper candidate for a Belly Button Boob Job™ and help you decide which implant size, shape and approach is best for you. We will carefully evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors, which could compromise your surgical outcome or jeopardize your health.
An assessment of the quality and quantity of your existing breast tissue will be made, in order to determine the proper choice of breast implant and technique. Detailed measurements of multiple, specific physical parameters of your breasts will also be obtained in order to define any pre-existing breast asymmetry. An ideal candidate for TUBA is a patient with minimal breast asymmetry and minimal sagging or ptosis of the breasts. Over time, Dr. Rodriguez has advanced his TUBA techniques, allowing him to offer more patients this state-of-the-art procedure.
How Is A Belly Button Boob Job™ Performed?
TUBA is typically performed in an outpatient surgery setting under light general anesthesia so that there is no pain or discomfort during the procedure. The surgery is performed through a vertical incision in the middle of the belly button. Using custom-made, slender instruments, a narrow tunnel is created under the skin through the subcutaneous layer, from the belly button to the breast. Meticulous technique is needed to create the surgical pockets for the implants under the muscles using these specially designed instruments. The implants are then rolled tightly and inserted into the newly created pockets and filled with sterile saline from an IV bag through soft plastic tubes. Once we confirm a symmetrical result, the fill tubes are removed and the navel incision is closed using buried dissolvable sutures.

The Belly Button Boob Job™ can also be combined with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) for a “Single Scar” Mommy Makeover procedure. We use the term “Single Scar” because we are avoiding any scars on the breast! In addition, combining the Belly Button Boob Job™ with a tummy tuck allows us to use silicone implants instead of saline! Silicone implants, which are prefilled, cannot be placed through the belly button. But when we combine a Belly Button Boob Job™ with a tummy tuck we can perform a Trans Abdominoplasty Silicone Breast Augmentation (TASBA), which combines the TUBA with advanced placement techniques to place silicone implants in the subpectoral space.
